What we want:

i-had-an-abortion.org wants to put the issues of unwanted pregnancy and illegal abortion on the agenda.

There is an enormous misrelation between the amount of women concerned and the public/media attention: On average every woman will have at least one abortion during her lifetime.

Other facts, such as
Each six minutes a woman dies from an illegal abortion.
If legal, an abortion is safer than using a tampon.
are cloaked into taboo.

Our aim is to break these taboos.

Therefore we invite everybody to support our campain: Stress the fact that, on average, every woman is concerned, by putting the statement " I HAD AN ABORTION " on your property and correspondence related to you. This does also go for men: First of all, it takes two people to cause an unwanted pregnancy - that makes an abortion the business of both of them. Second, our campain is mainly about confronting the public with the extent of this issue - the more often the statement is read, the closer it comes to it's real extent (which still won't be very close).

Furthermore we provide a platform for everybody to share their statements, ideas and comments to this issue and the campain, i-had-an-abortion.org will be updated regularily to feature the latest entries.

When i read on your site that every woman has an abortion statistically i couldn't belief it. It is good that now people start to point the finger at this! With friends we also went out and put sticker tapes on advertisings.

I also found a interesting campaign. I think you will all like it: Somebody handed me a flyer today with a safetypin sticked through it. It explained that the safetypin is the new international symbol for concern about unwanted pregnancy and illegal abortion. Maybe you should include it ?

I just found this: A Dutch ship with a clinic on it requesting access to Portuguese waters. Abortion seems t be illegal in Portugal and the authorities are deniing access. Looks like an interesting campaign. I hope they will make it.
